🛠️ ALXR Store

This document explains how to restore your WordPress site from backups created with UpdraftPlus.
Restoring a backup includes your site’s files, database, themes, plugins, and uploads.

📦 What You’ll Need

  • Access to your WordPress Admin dashboard (e.g. https://yourdomain.com/wp-admin)
  • UpdraftPlus plugin installed and activated
  • A valid backup set (either stored remotely or uploaded manually)
  • Sufficient hosting resources (storage and PHP memory for the restore)

🪄 Step 1: Log In to Your WordPress Dashboard

  1. Go to your site’s admin panel:

  2. Log in with an administrator account.

📁 Step 2: Open UpdraftPlus

  1. In the left sidebar, go to:

  2. This will open the UpdraftPlus control panel.

☁️ Step 3: Locate Your Backup

You have two options:

Option A — Backup stored on remote storage

If you configured remote storage (e.g. Google Drive, Dropbox, Amazon S3, etc.):

  • Click “Rescan remote storage”
  • Wait for your backup set to appear in the list.

Option B — Backup stored locally

If you have backup zip files on your computer:

  • Click “Upload backup files”
  • Drag and drop or browse to upload your files (database, plugins, themes, uploads, others).

🧰 Step 4: Start the Restore

  1. Find the backup set you want to restore.
  2. Click the “Restore” button.
  3. UpdraftPlus will ask which components to restore:
  • ✅ Plugins
  • ✅ Themes
  • ✅ Uploads
  • ✅ Others
  • ✅ Database
  1. Select the components you want to restore (usually all).
  2. Click “Next” to begin the restoration process.

⏳ Step 5: Complete the Restore

  • UpdraftPlus will extract and restore each component.
  • If restoring the database, you’ll be logged out after completion — simply log in again.
  • Once the process finishes, you should see a confirmation message:

🧼 Step 6: Post-Restore Checks

After restoration:

  • Log in again to the admin dashboard if needed.

Check:

  • Site homepage
  • Plugins and theme functionality
  • Media uploads
  • Menus and widgets
  • Go to UpdraftPlus → Settings → Save Changes if you want to verify or re-enable scheduled backups.

🚀 Optional: Restore Manually (Advanced)

If the UpdraftPlus plugin isn’t installed yet:

  1. Install and activate UpdraftPlus manually:
  • Go to Plugins → Add New
  • Search “UpdraftPlus”
  • Click Install and then Activate
  1. Upload your backup files under:

  2. Return to UpdraftPlus → Existing Backups and run the restore as above.

⚠️ Important Notes

  • Always use the same WordPress version as the backup if possible.
  • Ensure enough server space before restoring large backups.
  • Keep a separate copy of your backup files in secure cloud storage.
  • If something goes wrong, you can restore a previous backup again.

🆘 Troubleshooting

  • “Restore failed” — Check file permissions and disk space.
  • Backup not showing up — Click “Rescan remote storage” or ensure files are in wp-content/updraft.
  • Login issues after restore — Clear your browser cache and try again.
  • White screen — Temporarily rename plugin folders via FTP to disable conflicts.
